Track Cycling
Two outdoor velodromes serve this region, forty minutes apart, and between them they race four nights a week through the summer. Both run beginner sessions — neither expects you to own a track bike to start.
Ed Rudolph Velodrome
Meadowhill Park, Northbrook, IL
Run by the Northbrook Cycle Committee. Thursday Night Racing is the headline — a themed programme that takes in keirin, madison, points and scratch nights, several of them Illinois state championships. Tuesdays are training, Mondays are clinics, and Saturdays carry the one-off events.
Washington Park Velodrome
Washington Park, Kenosha, WI
Wisconsin's oldest operating outdoor velodrome, in its 99th season in 2026. Monday nights are stock-bike racing on whatever bike you already own; Tuesdays are USA Cycling-sanctioned fixed-gear racing and need the Track 101 clinic first. Structured training runs Thursdays.

New to the track?
Both velodromes will lend you a bike and teach you to ride it. Track bikes have no gears and no brakes, so every venue insists on a clinic before you race — that is normal, not a hurdle put in your way.
